Many knitters and crocheters remember learning the craft during childhood. Seven seems to be the age that most people learn, and depending on the child and their attention span, it could be even younger. If you have a young person in your life, we'd like to encourage you to get them hooked on needlework this summer. With our
video library, some yarn and needles or hooks, you can get a newbie going in about an hour's time. I prefer bamboo for new needleworkers as it is light and has a bit of traction so stitches don't slide everywhere. And as for fiber, it helps if the new knitter chooses their own. As long as it is relatively smooth and managable, letting them pick out a texture and color they love will help them feel connected to their first project. This week's free pattern,
Carry Bag, was designed with the young knitter in mind, and I've selected a few easy projects from our archives that they can tackle with your help. Have fun!
