Give it Some Personality: The Classic LBD, What FPD Has Been Up to Lately

Give it Some Personality: The Classic LBD

Posted: 27 Jun 2010 01:59 AM PDT

[I apologize for the incredible paleness of my legs in these pics!]

In the world of fashion, black is always a safe, chic choice. I easily have eight lbds that I wear on a regular basis,  with brands ranging from Target to J.Crew and Calvin Klein to Norma Kamali with styles ranging from boatneck to strapless, empire to full-skirted numbers. The one thing that always remains the same across all of these styles? The ability to include a ’stunner’ – a terrific accessory- be it footwear, earrings, necklaces, or bracelets, that give your lbd a tremendous amount of personality and individual style. I decided to start this ‘Give it Some Personality’ series to show how you can take things you already have and breathe new life into them. I was inspired by these floral Marlee Tea Party Pink Floral Canvas Sneakers by 80%20 to create the look — the canvas shoes make the look very urban and playful, as well as practical (my feet log a lot of miles each day!). I’ve recently fallen for 80%20 shoes, interviewing designer Ce Ce Chin earlier this month, and after receiving a complimentary pair of shoes from the spring collection, I wanted to make them work in a way that was meaningful to me. I received this glass and metal necklace from my Mom for my birthday yesterday, and thought it married its sophisticated, modern aesthetic well with the downtown cool vibe of the shoes (and looked great with my Hudson Clutch!). Stay tuned for more ‘Give it Some Personality’ features!

Dove Mist Event

I went to the Dove Go Fresh Mist event, and learned about how every Dove product is all about hydration and moisture, with the Mist line containing four scents: Revive, Burst, Energize, and Cool Moisture (and their corresponding deodorant/anti-perspirants as well.

Jane Iredale Event

I recently attended an intimate luncheon at Serafina to meet the lady behind the brand, Jane Iredale, and hear about the Seal of Recommendation from The Skin Cancer Foundation on five of its most popular products -  Dream Tint<, LipDrink and Powder-Me SPF in Tanned and Translucent.

Summer Entertaining with Bacardi Cocktails & Robert Verdi Event

I recently added Bacardi’s Summer Entertaining Event hosted by Robert Verdi at Luxe Labratory. He had some great tips to offer up, such as being more eco-friendly by using bamboo plates instead of plastic ones, using brown craft paper as a tablecloth, and making a marshmallow roasting station on a hibachi grill.

Twist your Hair to Dry

Twist your Hair to Dry

Posted: 26 Jun 2010 12:18 AM PDT

Do you know that drying your hair by rubbing it with a towel will only ruin your hair? The friction between the towel and your hair will damage the texture of your hair and caused breakage. Instead, what you should do is twist your hair to squeeze excess water after you wash your hair.

MILLICAN: CHALLENGES OF AN ETHICAL BRAND

How on earth does one run a lifestyle brand that’s ethical and sustainable – that helps save the earth? Today my wife Nicky and I run our own brand, Millican, a company that produces classic travelling and outdoor bags but also encourages our customers to make conscious choices about sustainability and eco-friendly living. But that’s no easy road, as I hope this article honestly shows.

HERMAN'S GREEN ECO FASHION SHOW

Anna Herman grew up intrigued by the details of how things worked. This crossed over into her interest in fashion from a very early age. The elements and processes of clothing design were something she was so fascinated with that after attaining a degree in Fine Arts and operating her own store in Missoula, Montana (a hemp mecca), she contemplated the many life damaging aspects of the garment industry and immersed herself in the world of vintage shopping. She made new things, remade old things, and found herself still wanting to do something more for the world of eco fashion.
