What Was She Wearing: Answers!

.
Fourth of July festivities are just a few days away, so you're probably gearing up for an action-packed weekend of barbecues, fireworks, and poolside fun. But here at Who What Wear headquarters, we're still focused on our first order of business—fashion—which means giving you a few great wardrobe suggestions to ensure you look seriously stylish at this year's red, white, and blue festivities. Before we break for some fun-under-the-sun of our own, we must get to your pressing inquiries; after all, we wouldn't dare leave you without an extra bit of inspiration or a few last-minute outfit options! Accordingly, today's installment of What Was She Wearing: Answers! is made up of a lovely quartet of style stars, so whether you fall for Alexa Chung's strappy sandals or Jessica Hart's smoky dress, you're sure to find some inspiration to help you look fabulous this holiday weekend.

Alexa Chung
When it comes to must-have ensembles, Alexa Chung continues to top your list—and how can she not? The cheeky Brit makes looking stylish easy with an effortless combination of high and low fashion, like this warm-weathered outfit she wore out shopping on Fifth Avenue in New York City last month. Chung showed off some leg in her Topshop Tall Wavy Spot Flippy Dress ($90), which, although it is an adorable summertime option, is already sold out. But you can get your hands on a similar in-stock style, such as ModCloth's Powder Puff Polka Dot Dress ($58) or TFNC's Shoulder Pad Retro Fit and Flare Dress ($51), which has the same silhouette without the polka-dot print. To recreate Chung's buckled footwear—Vivienne Westwood's 3-Strap Sandals ($503, only available in the designer's UK stores) to be exact—check out Dolce Vita's Tate 5 Buckle Lug Sandals ($170), an equally to-die-for pair that will make all your friends jealous.

Eva Mendes
A classic white dress is the perfect summertime staple, as the lovely Eva Mendes demonstrated last week when she was spotted out in West Hollywood. The stunning actress met Jessica Alba for lunch that day wearing a beautiful Ports 1961 French Lace Sheath Dress with a full, draped skirt (very Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, no?). The light and flowy silhouette is ideal for daytime outings, and although this exact dress is from a previous season, you can achieve the same effect with Edme & Esyllte's Camilla Dress ($138). Mendes added a little earthiness to the sweetly feminine spirit of this ensemble via her go-to pair of Stuart Weitzman Sandra Wedges ($375, only available at Scoop stores), a vintage Gucci bag, and Vera Wang Olive Romantic Shape Sunglasses ($225, 212.382.2184). To mimic her ladylike look, grab yourself a pair of J. Crew's Caden Suede Cork Wedges ($150) and Lucky Brand's The Bandit Foldover Hobo Bag ($150).

Agyness Deyn Agyness Deyn's style is a playful mishmash of bright colors and quirky fabrics, which makes her a favorite among fashion crowds, and, of course, with you too! The British model addressed one of our favorite looks while hitting up the Apple store at the Grove in Los Angeles, when she roughed up her sweet Future Classics Paint by Numbers Maxi Dress ($1,667) with Acne's POP Leather Jacket ($829, 212.625.2828). When you pair a cropped moto like Buffalo's Noelle Faux-Leather Motorcycle Jacket ($128) over a floral frock like Free People's Painted Landscapes Dress ($198) you add a cool edge to your entire look. For an extra bit of punk rock, Deyn opted for a pair of custom-made Converse decked out in silver studs. You can get the same vibe with What Goes Around Comes Around's Studded Converse Low Top Sneakers ($195), High-Top Sneakers ($225), or simply do-it-yourself with a bedazzler. Last, but not least, Deyn rounded out her ensemble with Ray-Ban Clubmaster Sunglasses ($145), so check out Topshop's Metal Bridge Sunglasses ($30) for a similar pair of retro sunnies.

Jessica Hart
Based on all the emails that came pouring in this week, it appears you appreciate Australian model Jessica Hart's clever contrast of feminine and masculine pieces. For example, while hanging out in Soho with boyfriend Nicolas Potts, Hart paired an Isabel Marant Rifana Dress ($535, 212.219.2284) with Frye Engineer 12R Boots ($208), and Akubra's Adventurer Hat ($125), which added a rugged edge to the entire look. If a smoky colored frock à la Hart is your cup of tea, Calypso's Briggi Dress ($195) will surely delight. However, if it was her cool accessories that caught your attention, then get your hands on a pair of flat boots like Blowfish's Twisted Sister Biker Boots ($110) and give your look a proper Aussie finish with REI's Australian Outback Oilskin Safari Hat ($46).—Jessica Baker

Insider's Picks: Madewell's Kin Ying Lee - Dedicated Email

.
If you've ever been in the market for vintage-inspired essentials with a downtown edge—like the best chambray shirt, cool and classic jeans, or spot-on accessories—surely you're familiar with Madewell. Otherwise known as J. Crew's sister, the team at Madewell never fails to amaze us with their uncanny ability to design so many perfect pieces each season. The stores are stocked with everything you need to look stylish right now, ranging from little lacy t-shirts to denim rompers to superb summer sandals. In fact, the collection is so strong we simply had to put Madewell's Head Designer Kin Ying Lee in the spotlight, so we asked her to divulge a few of her favorite items. She gave us the scoop on some Madewell must-buys, which we're delighted to share with you today. Also noteworthy: Madewell's giving one lucky person a chance to win an incredibly cool shopping weekend in New York—check out www.madewell.com/areyoumadewell for all the prizing details!

Lace Illusion Tee ($42)
A trompe l'oeil lace print instantly upgrades a basic white tee, adding a dose of polish to any ensemble. Wear it under a summer suit to the office, or pair it with a pleated, skater skirt for a flirty weekend-errands outfit.

Super Sunglasses ($140)
A statement pair of sunglasses is always at the top of our summer must-have list, and currently we're craving vintage-inspired oversized frames like Super's version. Not only is the flat-top shape very of-the-moment, but the color is particularly unique—making these sunnies a seriously covetable pair.

Boardwalk Shorts ($72)
Who could resist the vibrant blue hue of these silky, zippered shorts? They're perfect for a day of sightseeing, styled with a tank and gladiator. Or you can wear them with The Sunset Sandals and some chandelier earrings for an effortlessly chic evening ensemble—perfect for sitting at an outdoor square and enjoying a café au lait or aperitif!

The Sunset Sandal ($148)
There's no denying that the clog has emerged as the shoe of the season, and we are big fans of Madewell's wood-and-leather take on the trend. Part clog, part wedge, this sandal is extremely versatile and will complement everything from denim cut-offs to a maxi dress.

Biker Bomber Jacket ($395)
Buttery soft and seriously luxe, this suede biker bomber is the perfect upgrade from a jean jacket and an interesting alternative to your typical black leather options. Plus the camel color is right on-trend with this season's khaki craze, making it an ideal investment piece.

Railroad-Stripe Denim Midi Shorts ($72)
Denim cutoffs are undoubtedly a warm-weather essential and the mix of pinstripe and patchwork on this pair lends them a boho-chic vibe that is always in style. Wear them to spend the summer as a fashionable gypset amassing stamps on your passport—or just to appear as if you did!

Lizzie Fortunato Jewels for Madewell Pendant Necklace ($62)
We're longtime fans the colorful, handmade pieces from Lizzie Fortunato Jewels, so we were thrilled when we heard Madewell would be carrying an exclusive, lower-priced version of the line. Use this wooden pendant necklace to add a unique, global touch to your favorite basics or wear it with a black linen dress and field jacket for a chic, daytime look—either way, it's super chic!
