2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY

WEDNESDAY AT 10P

Open the pod bay doors, HAL.

A mind-bending sci-fi symphony, Stanley Kubrick's landmark 1968 epic pushed the limits of narrative and special effects toward a meditation on technology and humanity. Provocatively billed as "the ultimate trip," 2001 quickly caught on with a counterculture youth audience open to a contemplative (i.e. chemically enhanced) viewing experience of a film suggesting that the way to enlightenment was to free one's mind of the U.S. military-industrial-technological complex.

Her solution: a multi-tiered, stackable tray with food underneath and tools on top.
Tue Oct 11 08:00 PM LOVE LUST & SEX SYMBOLS
They're the people you fantasize about, the faces that stir you, and the bodies that define hot. They're sex symbols - those icons of sensuality that captivate, titillate, and allow us to project our most intimate desires. From the curvaceous Marilyn Monroe to the androgynous idols of the 1970s, what makes a sex symbol is more than pure beauty. It's the ability to tap into and represent the social and cultural politics of the time. Love|Lust: Sex Symbols explores how these unforgettable objects of desire personify generations, reflect popular tastes, and drive social change.
Wed Oct 12 08:00 PM WORLDS APART
Denmark's entry for the 2008 Oscars was filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev's notably nuanced story of a teenage Jehovah's Witness (Rosalinde Spanning) who falls in love with an unbeliever. When church elders learn of 17-year-old Sara's romance and insist that she recount intimate details, they force her to choose between Teis (Pilou Asbaek) and isolation from her family and community. Based on a true story, WORLDS APART's evenhanded, documentary-like approach to fundamentalist belief and structures allows for rare viewer empathy and understanding.

Will they be able to push her to embrace her new body, or will the scars of her past continue to hold her back?

Sun Oct 16 10:00 PM BOBBY
Twenty-two people become unwitting participants in a tragic and defining moment of the 1960s in this period drama from actor and director Emilio Estevez. It's early June in 1968, and the California presidential primary elections are occupying the minds of many in the Golden State, with Robert F. Kennedy in a close race against Eugene McCarthy and Hubert Humphrey. The Kennedy campaign staff has set up camp at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, while the staff and guests become observers as the brother of fallen president John F. Kennedy sets out to pick up where his sibling left off.
