Her solution: a multi-tiered, stackable tray with food underneath and tools on top. But, can the Quirky team cook up a beautiful product that carries everything Christine envisions without it becoming too clunky to hold? Romola Garai plays Angel Deverell, a conceited young author of florid, lowbrow romances, who finds a huge readership when a savvy publisher (Sam Neill) takes a chance. Yet much as she might wish, Angel's life fails to mirror her fiction, especially her pursuit of a philandering artist (Michael Fassbender). The loosely autobiographical script centers on Johnny (Paddy Considine), a young actor sneaking his wife, Sarah (Samantha Morton), and daughters, Christy and Ariel (real-life sisters Sarah and Emma Bolger, respectively), over the Canadian border in the hopes of jump-starting his career in New York City. They soon find that America is not the land of boundless opportunity, however, as they move into a dank, dilapidated apartment building populated by drug dealers, transients, and thugs. | | Fri Oct 7 | 10:00 PM | DR. T AND THE WOMEN | | Director Robert Altman reteams with Cookie's Fortune scribe Anne Rapp for this tale of a Dallas gynecologist and the parade of anxious patients, haggard family members, and potential love interests who come his way. Richard Gere plays the titular role of Dr. Sullivan Travis, a calm, successful, and much sought-after ob-gyn who witnesses his normally stable life come apart over the course of one rainy autumn. As the film opens, Dr. T and his wife Kate (Farrah Fawcett) are preparing for the wedding of their Dallas Cowboys cheerleader daughter Dee Dee (Kate Hudson). Their other daughter -- the Kennedy-assassination conspiracy theorist Connie (Tara Reid) -- has her doubts about the impending nuptials, but Dr. T chalks them up to routine sibling jealousy. Meanwhile, escaping a messy divorce, boozy sister-in-law Peggy (Laura Dern) moves into the Travis household with her three toddler daughters in tow. | | Sun Oct 9 | 12:35 AM | THE NOTORIOUS BETTIE PAGE | | The biographical retelling of how Nashville beauty, Bettie Page (Gretchen Mol), moved to New York in 1949 and became one of the first sex icons in United States history. | | Sun Oct 9 | 10:00 PM | BROKEDOWN PALACE | | Two carefree Americans embark on an overseas vacation that soon becomes a nightmare in this powerful drama. Alice (Claire Danes) is a headstrong teenager who wants to do something different to celebrate her high school graduation, so she persuades her more reserved best friend Darlene (Kate Beckinsale) to join her on a trip to Bangkok. While enjoying sun and scenery, Alice and Darlene meet Nick Parks (Daniel Lapaine), a charming Australian who shows them the sights and sweet-talks Darlene into a romantic assignation, which is something of a surprise to her bolder friend Alice. Nick then suggests that they join him on a side trip to Hong Kong, but they soon discover that Nick's interest has been neither friendly nor romantic: he has hidden a large amount of heroin in their luggage and is using them as drug runners without their knowledge. | | | |
