Piperlime Contest Tests Your Virtual Styling Skills

Piperlime's Style It Your Way feature lets users create custom head-to-toe looks.

We love experimenting with new wardrobe combinations on Polyvore and Couturious (these sites being a close second to VIVmag’s Mix & Match column, of course!), so we were thrilled to hear we can now put our virtual styling skills to the test with Piperlime’s Style It Your Way contest.

The popular online shopping site, founded by Gap, teamed up with Couturious to create an interactive dressing room, allowing customers to style one of four models in their favorite pieces before making a purchase.

To try out the new feature, go to piperlime.gap.com and select “Style It Your Way” from the drop-down menu at the top of the page. Click on “Start Styling” and you’ll be presented with one of four models sporting different color hair (blonde, red, brown, black). Choose your model and, if you prefer, customize the background. Then let the fashion fun begin: Dress your virtual paper doll using clothing, shoes, accessories and outerwear by the likes of Kenneth Cole, Nanette Lepore, Rebecca Taylor and Vince. Switching out pieces from Piperlime’s inventory requires no more than a few clicks, making this a fast and efficient way to try out fall trends, from military-inspired pieces to over-the-knee boots.

Once you finalize your picks, you can upload your finished outfit to Piperlime’s gallery, where users are encouraged to vote on their favorite head-to-toe looks. You can shore up more votes by sharing your creation via Facebook and Twitter — not a bad idea considering that the top 10 most-popular entries through Sept. 6 are eligible to win a $500 Piperlime gift certificate!

We like checking out the combos in the gallery; it’s especially interesting to see what other people pair with our favorite pieces. Do you consult virtual styling sites before you shop?
