Basso & Brooke Creates Cute, Expensive Picnic Sets

If you’re planning a drunken picnic in the park this summer, well, this probably wouldn’t be the least conspicuous way to do it. But, it might be the most fashionable. Design duo Basso & Brooke (Katy Perry, Beyonce and Michelle Obama have worn their clothes) are winners of London’s prestigious Fashion Fringe Award and have since become known for their use of colorful digital prints. They used this skill to design prints inspired by Turning Leaf wines for a limited edition dining set collection to kick off Turning Leaf’s Designers in Residence program, available exclusively at The Shop at Bluebird on King’s Road in London.

In addition to a silk blanket and cushions, the “Al Fresco Dining Set” will include two limited edition bottles of Turning Leaf wine. We would suggest keeping these wine bottles well out of reach of any children. They are so colorful and cartoon-ish, we think they look more likely to contain fruit punch than chardonnay or zinfandel. Basso & Brooke said this of the collaboration on their blog:

“People have pointed out to us that wine and fashion don’t immediately feel like natural partners. Initially that might seem to be the case–as fashion has greater visual emphasis than wine. But through our collaboration with Turning Leaf we’ve noticed that they share some vital qualities, beyond the fact that both revolve around the changing seasons.”

We think this might be a stretch, but we definitely like fashion and we definitely like wine and these dining sets are really pretty, if not a bit impractical. If we lived in London, had an extra £3,000 and time to spend leisurely afternoons picnicking and drinking wine, these would absolutely be at the top of our summer shopping list. So until we become Gwyneth Paltrow, we’ll probably stick with tote bags and maybe our dad’s $6 Marc Jacobs beer cooler. Would you splurge on a designer picnic set?
