There's something amazingly appealing about eccentric British musicians who have a love of dressing up—like David Bowie, Elton John, and the Rolling Stones, to name a few. Of course, there are loads of up-and-coming artists who deserve to be added to that list, including the divinely talented and intriguingly outfitted Florence Welch. The flame-haired front woman of
Florence and the Machine, our current sonic obsession, has an inimitable style that has us trawling our favorite vintage stores for the perfect beat-up skinny jeans, denim shirts, and lacy Victorian dresses. Of course, if you aren't versed in her killer quirky personal brand of chic, fear not dear readers, just make sure you check out the four fantastic outfits we've rounded up for June's
GOTM feature starring the one and only Florence Welch!
One of the best things about Welch's wardrobe ways is the fact that she has such a diverse range of looks. Working with stylist Aldene Johnson, sometimes Welch opts for totally contemporary combos, like when she was snapped after performing "You've Got The Love" on England's GMTV wearing American Apparel's
Stretch Bull Denim High Waist Slim Skirt ($54) mixed with an edgy oversized moto-jacket by
Religion and Office's flat oxfords, similar to the
Affirmative Lace-Ups ($86). We've been fans of the
maxi-moto style for some time now, so it's great to see that our style-star du jour is on the same wardrobe wavelength as some of our favorite fashion heavy-hitters. If you want to get a similarly chic outerwear option, be sure you try Affliction Avenger's
Leather Jacket ($168) paired with Ann Taylor's
Denim Pencil Skirt ($58) and Jeffrey Campbell's
Miller Cut Out Oxfords ($98) for a terrific tan flat. Of course, part of our
GOTM's signature soignée can be attributed to the way she makes vintage look modern
and her amazing ability to accessorize—yes, we're referring to her fondness for little socks! For example, while celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Sanderson Hotel earlier this year, Welch opted for a racy-lacey semi-sheer dress, which we heard is from
Shareen Vintage, styled with a simple pair of white socks and darling gray Nicholas Kirkwood Stella Ankle Boots ($1150, 702.770.5490). If this romantic combo appeals to you too, try out Topshop's
Lace Angel Sleeve Dress ($145) and Newport's
Oxford Style Pumps ($98)—just be sure to add some ankle socks to the mix.
A fashionable femme can't live in skirts and dresses alone, and Welch's tomboyish take on clothing is completely admirable for anyone who's a fan of the masculine-feminine combo. We love how the redhead beauty updated a denim-on-denim combo—comprised of Aprl 77
Skinny Jeans and a Ralph Lauren button-up, similar to the
Chambray Shirt ($50)—with a vintage khaki topper, resulting in a fresh take on the season's
mid-blue-hue trend. Make sure you follow her lead by pairing Joe's Jeans'
Chelsea Deconstructed Skinny Stretch Jeans ($89), ASOS'
Bleach Denim Shirt ($50), Old Navy's
Twill Cargo Zip Jacket ($13), and Matrix'
Daydreamer Hat ($27) for a Welch-approved ensemble. Just finish it off with a leopard-print purse, like her Mulberry Oversized Alexa Purse ($1595); Hammitt's
Westwood Printed Leopard Satchel ($585) is a great animal substitute, but if you're just looking for a similar shape, ASOS'
Buckle Detail Satchel Bag ($47) will also fit the bill nicely. We also had to call out our
GOTM's short-shorts style, particularly her cuffed, high-waisted, dark blue denim and blazer ensemble (all vintage). The navy palate of these two pieces looks brilliant with a country-inspired shirt (buttoned up to the top, natch), so make sure you consider Notify's
Dark Denim Stretch Shorts ($178), ASOS'
Curve Longline Ponti Blazer ($60) with a plaid piece like BDG's
Plaid Button Shirt ($20), and you'll be on your way to recreating this masterful outfit, stat!
Last, but certainly not least, although Welch's flame-red locks are a major part of her incomparable look, we also love the rest of her maquillage. The singer's pale visage (don't forget your sun block this summer, dear readers!), strong brows, and playful use of bright lipstick all scream beauty and fashion icon-in-the-making! —KM
