Posted: 18 Jun 2010 06:13 AM PDT MILAN, Italy — On Saturday, 19 June at 3pm Milan time, 2pm London time and 9am New York time, The Business of Fashion is pleased to bring you the livestream of the Burberry S/S 2011 menswear collection. BoF is one of the selected sites from around the world — and one of only a few sites based in the UK — to stream the show, which this season sees the launch of Burberry Acoustic, a new ongoing initiative with emerging British music talent, curated by Christopher Bailey. "We felt that with the great interaction that we have experienced with our social media website artofthetrench that we could collaborate with musicians and artists to put together an incredible group of ongoing acoustic sessions from some of the finest talent coming out of the UK and bring them to the broad global Burberry audience," says Bailey of the new cutting-edge fashion-music-film initiative. The first song to be released under the Burberry Acoustic banner is Alleyway, a catchy acoustic set by Life in Film, whose “dark pop, Kings of Leon style melodies are downcast, morose flirts with Nick Cave which invoke the feeling of being in the centre of a glitter war,” according to London’s Independent newspaper. “They're the lustrous recession musicians taking British pop away from disco tunes and towards dusty barroom dancefloors, circa Tamla Motown.” In a sign of marketing integration for which Burberry has become known, rumour has it that some of these musicians may also make it into Burberry’s ad campaign for the season. Real people making real music showing real clothes from the world’s first truly digital luxury brand. Quite a concept indeed. After the show, BoF will also have an exclusive interview with Christopher Bailey to ask more about this new initiative, so stay tuned for more news about Burberry Acoustic from The Business of Fashion from Milan. Posted: 18 Jun 2010 05:07 AM PDT Leon Bailey Green and London’s Independent newspaper co-published the ‘Online Fashion 100,’ a list of the most “Inspirational, Interesting, and Influential people in the Online Fashion Industry.” LONDON, United Kingdom — Last year, the online fashion community in London was abuzz when Today, BoF has the exclusive scoop on a few of the names that will appear on this year’s list, due to be published on Monday alongside expert commentary from Hilary Alexander of The Daily Telegraph and Brent Hoberman of Lastminute.com fame. So without further ado, here’s a sneak peek at the Online Fashion 100 for 2010. It should be of no surprise that James Bilefield & Dylan Jones of Conde Nast Digital and GQ, Nick Knight of SHOWstudio, Nish Kukadia of SecretSales.com, and Simon Cowell & Sir Philip Green of Arcadia and Sony, have all made the cut. One notable addition to the list this year is Johann Rupert, Chairman and principal shareholder of Richemont, who is on the list alongside our next BoF Fashion Pioneer, Natalie Massenet. She sold Net-a-Porter to the Swiss luxury goods group earlier this year for £350m. Indeed, investors like Mr. Rupert are included on the list for the first time, acknowledging the essential support that their capital provides to the development of the online fashion ecosystem. That said, the Online Fashion 100 is more of an art than a science due to the subjective basis upon which it is created, a fact which Green says is a necessity. “I really believe in keeping the list diverse and inclusive,” he explains. “The only way to maintain that is to keep it subjective with my choices, some of which were whittled down if unchosen by judges. These are people who I have watched — directly or indirectly— through their work over the past year, or have come to my attention after being mentioned by industry professionals I respect.” The complete Online Fashion 100 will be published on Monday, 21 June 2010 on Leon Bailey Green and The Online Fashion Agency. |

Luxury labels from France’s Hermés to American icon Ralph Lauren are opening stores dedicated to men… — Gucci, Prada, Dior, Chanel, Burberry — dress men too.” India Innovates, China Makes, America Buys (WSJ) “Anyone whose daily commute includes the clogged roads of Mumbai would be temporarily enthralled by the butter-smooth roads and highways of China… it is not hard to marvel at the infrastructure built by the Chinese to boost their economy and support their factories.” Tiffany reiterates 2010 expansion plans (Bloomberg) “Fernandez affirmed Tiffany’s plan to open 16 stores in 2010, including six in the Americas, eight in Asia-Pacific and two in Europe. Tiffany now operates 223 stores in 22 countries.” Department store pushes the envelope (Inside Retailing) “[Canadian] department store, The Bay (formerly known as Hudson Bay), has pushed the envelope on department store retailing when it comes to its Toronto designer fashion space, The Room.” Fashion Spawn for Sale (NY Times) “Styletrek will start officially on Sept. 7, when 50 designers will have clothing and accessories for sale. Candidates must be in business at least three seasons and submit to a review process.” |
