Inspired by the impending start of Summer Fridays, for our May installment of
WWW: Styling Tips, we decided to primarily focus on outfits that have the same relaxed spirit as our favorite season. Whether it's an easy way to personalize your favorite frock, a stylish suggestion on how to dress up your go-to jean shorts, or another compelling reason why you need an army jacket, we've rounded up a few on-point examples for your sartorial edification. So get ready to take some tips from trendsetters like Margherita Missoni, Kate Bosworth, and Lily Donaldson—your sense of style will thank you!
Tip #1: Try oversized frames in neutral hues.
Don't limit your bold frames choices to just sunglasses—your regular specs should get some oversized style too! Just look to Aussie stunner Jessica Hart for reference and you'll see what we mean. The model/designer reinforced this idea when we spotted her at a party for star hairstylist Harry Josh earlier this month wearing a perfect pair of vintage Playboy glasses. The exaggerated amber frames deftly elevated her Neon Hart
Check Studded Shirt ($89.95) and
Shiney Zip Leggings ($69.95), band t-shirt (specifically, Tamarama), and Wyred boots. If you're into such specs, definitely check out Nasty Gal's
Foxy Mama Glasses ($30) in Tortoise, they're so cute! Urban Outfitters also has some thrifty thrills; try their
Aviator Reader ($10) in Brown or the
Paramount Readers ($10) in Black for a budget-friendly way to try Hart's look.
Tip #2: Wear army jackets with everything.
Just in case you needed more proof that the army jacket is
the key outerwear piece this season, we're happy to share yet another stylish example. Lily Donaldson—one of our favorite British beauties—looked marvelous in a Rag & Bone
Ohara Jacket ($520) at the NOWNESS-hosted premiere of
Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child at the MoMa late last month. The always fashionable supermodel looked enviable stylish in her cuffed jacket paired with vintage finds and a Sonia Rykiel bag. If you've yet to source your own military-inspired topper, no worries, we've rounded up a few for your shopping pleasure. Currently the WhoWhatWear.com office is obsessed with the

Tip #3: Add a vintage belt to your favorite dress.
Since we're on the cusp of summer, we've been revisiting some of our favorite warm-weather frocks lately and looking for ways to personalize and update these go-to dresses. When we spied Margherita Missoni at Milan's International Furniture Fair wearing a S/S/ 10 Missoni dress with a handmade crochet cardigan, we were delighted to note she added a vintage belt to transform the look. Per many of our @whowhatwear followers,
Etsy.com has loads of lovely vintage cinchers, ranging from a demure taupe
'50s Bow Belt ($25) to a bolder
'80s Cinch Belt ($15). Definitely spend some time on the site browsing for the best pieces, you won't regret it. If sifting through so-so styles is not for you, there's no shame in going for a new belt with a vintage vibe. While totally expensive, we have a huge crush on Chloe's
Calf-Leather Bow Belt ($480) and think that By Malene Birger's
Phelia Metallic Leather Belt ($120) has a cool eighties look.
Tip #4: Dress up jean shorts with a blouse and heels.
Though we typically see Kate Bosworth on the red carpet looking like the epitome of sleek and chic style, we were recently besotted with one of her more casual looks. For Harry Josh's annual Spring Fling party, Bosworth turned up in a pair of J Brand
1043 Cuffed Shorts ($158) in Neptune that she dressed up with a Chloe silk blouse from the fashion house's S/S 09 collection and Maison Martin Margiela heels, similar to their
Overlap Leather Pumps ($650). To add some sophistication to your cutoffs, you can always invest in a current Chloe top, like the
Silk Satin Blouse ($1145), or pick up Equipment's
Signature Washed Silk Blouse ($178) instead. As for shoes, though they're peep-toe, Aldo's
Eggenberg Heels ($90) are a great gray style or try their
Savaria Suede Pumps ($70). If you're looking to upgrade your gray heels, check out Ralph Lauren's
Suede Cora Pumps ($550) or the aforementioned MMM style: both are sound investments.
Tip #5: Pair a girly dress with a tux jacket.
You probably have some dressy events coming up in the next few months, so we wanted to include at least one fancier look in today's
Tips. The chosen ensemble was snapped on Anja Rubik, who attended the Humane Society of New York's Photography Auction at DVF Studio in late April wearing a gorgeously girly ruffled maxi dress balanced with a tailored tux jacket. Rubik's gown, a limited edition Matthew Williamson Feather-Print Maxi Dress for Quintessentially Bespoke ($2495, 212.255.9881) and Balmain jacket are no longer available, but the outfit idea is still very strong. To emulate the major model's red carpet style, we suggest Theory's
Varsha Laureate Jacket ($415) for a more traditional version or Pins and Needles
Tuxedo Blazer ($68) if you like a cropped dinner jacket. Need a printed maxi to go with that tux? BCBG Max Azria's

Tip #6: Mix patterns with animal-print accents.
One of our favorite musicians, the peerless Lykke Li, turned up at Charlotte Ronson's I HEART Ronson for JCPenney Cocktail Jam in Los Angeles last month wearing an outfit that was just as winning as her songs. The Swedish singer/songwriter mixed two vintage print pieces—a plaid mini dress and a houndstooth boyfriend blazer—with leopard Fendi ankle boots, resulting in a wonderfully wearable combination. If you want to create a version of Li's look, feel free to assemble your own dynamic print pairing, just make sure you add an animal accent. Obviously Alexander Wang made some amazing leopard items this spring, like the
Diego Bucket Bag ($950) and the
Natasha Choked Pumps ($575), but there are many other options too. Sam Edelman's
Katrice Wedges ($159) in Brown Leopard are an on-trend and affordable style, or you might like the cheeky
Mariel Wedge Sandals ($168) in Cheetah by Jeffrey Campbell. Personally, we love the idea of an animal-print sandal, like Opening Ceremony's
Caged Flats ($415), but feel free to wear whatever you like!
