Today's Obsessions

Have you ever noticed how some women seem to be clued up on make up tips, and others don't have a clue? Many times I've wondered how women are expected to learn, and just recently, I've been collecting the beauty tricks of my favorite beautiful people. After all, we all want to look great! Here are my favourite beauty tips that you need to know…

1. Skip The Foundation

Available at sephora.com
This probably is my favorite beauty secret to share. Most women do not need foundation. While it can become a habit to apply, its purpose is to give a smooth surface for make up application, and an even tone. More and more teens are wearing it, though. The first make up tip every woman should know? Foundation does not cover up nasty acne, and most women simply don't need it.

2. Concealer Tip

Available at sephora.com
Concealer is a life saver if you use it correctly and is very easy to apply. So why are most women taught to rub it in?! Concealer is meant to be patted in, not rubbed. This allows it to cover up blemishes 'naturally', without irritating the blemish further.

3. Lips or Eyes

Available at sephora.com
Similar to legs or cleavage, this is one of those rules which should never be broken. If you are playing up your eyes, use a nude lipstick, and if you are going for statement lips, keep eyes neutral and apply a coat of a great mascara.

I love books of all kinds, though my tastes run more into the non-fiction than fiction. I especially love cook-books! The receipes are fun and interesting, but I also love the stories behind the recipes, if they can be found. Are you looking for a new cook-book or two? I can definitely recommend a few! Here’s my list of the ten best cook-books… bon appetite!

1. Cooking for Mr. Latte by Amanda Hesser

Price: $10.17 at amazon.com
Part dating memoir, part cookbook, this absolutely belongs in my list of the best cook-books! I love the chocolate dump-it cake, so named because you just dump everything in the pan, but I loved learning the story behind it, too. The only problem is where to keep this book… do you keep it with the non-fiction biographies, or on the shelf with your other cookbooks?

2. The Tex-Mex Cookbook by Robb Walsh

Price: $12.91 at amazon.com
I love Tex-Mex cuisine, and even better is reading about the history of this delicious food, where it comes from, who cooks it, and why. The recipe for cheese enchiladas is fantastic, and so is the chili gravy you drizzle on top!

3. Better Homes and Gardens Homemade Bread Cook Book

1
Price: $2.66 (average) at amazon.com
This is the cook-book my mother used when she baked bread when I was a child. I literally teared up when I found a copy, these thirty years later, in a thrift shop. The recipes are timeless classics, and all of the ones I’ve tried can’t be beat… the banana nut bread is divine…

Some tend to think that they have to drink alcohol in order to have fun. Is this setting a good example for the little ones around us? This includes little brothers, sisters, cousins and of course your own children. There’s also always a danger of your occasional drinking bouts turning into an addiction if you’re not careful. So, here are 8 sure ways to have fun without drinking. Get ready, because it's time to start having a good time sober!

8. Have fun with your children!

I love this one myself, because my daughter and I have a very good bond and I love spending time with her. We play video games together. Crafts have always been our favorite. Kids have very inventive minds and they find you plenty of things to do. They’re very helpful with cooking or cleaning, too. So get out there and have fun with your children!

7. Run or walk outside!

If you like the outdoors, you will find that it’s one of the best places to calm the mind and just take it easy. You can have fun with your partner outdoors, in a windy meadow full of flowers. Take a camera along and take some lovely photos. Nature is always fun and you can sure enjoy it without a bottle of booze.

6. Play with your pet!

This is my favorite! I love playing with my pets, because they are fun and it’s good for them. If you have a dog like me, you will find that fetch is the most amazing part of playing with your dog. Teaching them to bring a stick or ball back might be tough at first, but training your dog and constant practice helps. A lot more fun than drinking!

Cars and women together have always been sexy. So put your wedding gown on, show some leg, and hop on that hot rod! If you don’t have a mustang like the one in this photo see if there are any classic car shows coming to your area or rent one from your local Hertz. A trolley, bus or truck make for great automobile photos too. Hop in the back of your pick-up or horse, put on your cowboy hat and boots and you’ll be one sexy cowgirl in her wedding dress.

1. Rock the Waves…

The beach has become one of the most popular locations for trash the dress photo shoots. How can it not be with romantic photos like this one. Getting wet, playing in the sand, and kissing on the beach brings scenes from movies and romance novels to life. The ocean and the beach is a favorite spot for my fiance and I; he proposed to me on the beach last year! A trash the dress session at the same location would be perfect for us. Let the sand cool your toes, be silly in love in the water, and kiss each other at sunset as your perfect day becomes a perfect night.
