Style Spotlight: Sarah Jessica Parker

.
If you live in a place where media and advertising exist, surely you know that in just a handful of days Sarah Jessica Parker returns to the silver screen as her Sex and the City alter ego, Carrie Bradshaw. Since the first SATC movie was a mega success, the impending arrival of SATC: 2 means Parker and her fabulous cohorts are gearing up for a monster press tour, the likes of which will unleash enough glamorous gowns to outfit a virtual sea of starlets. And while these spotlight-worthy dresses are no doubt divine, we want to focus on some of the more down-to-earth looks Parker picks for her daily duties. After all, a girl cannot live on sequin-embellished silk and feather-trimmed tulle alone! So with that, and no further ado, we shall direct your attention to everyone's favorite heroine-in-heels and show you what SJP wears in real life.

Whether she's attending a screening of the new Bravo show Work of Art at the Paley Center (She's an executive producer! It's like Project Runway for art!) in a draped white Sophia Kokosalaki frock or running errands in a snugly cinched gray 3.1 Phillip Lim cardigan, Balenciaga lace-ups, and alabaster Helmut Lang Skinny Jeans ($195, 323.951.0994), Parker dresses up her basics with layered accessories, pops of bright colors, and animal prints. She usually sticks to a slim silhouette for her pants—often cuffing them to fit her petite frame—and keeps everything in proportion by picking body-grazing tops. Unsurprisingly Parker knows the power of perfectly placed accessories, and uses scarves, like Louis Vuitton's Leopard Stole ($715, 866.VUITTON) and Etoile Roses Fuchsia Scarf ($890, 866.VUITTON), to add texture to her outfits.

The actress also loves to infuse her looks with a little drama via jewelry, bags, and brimmed hats. At the aforementioned Paley Center event, she ramped up her draped dress with a gold vintage Givenchy heart necklace from Frock NYC, teal slingback sandals by Nicholas Kirkwood, and two bags: a long strap VBH Origami Square Bag ($1750, 212.717.9800) and a Fendi Spy Bag. Parker also depends on a range of pink bags to heighten her ensembles; she wore Louis Vuitton's Besace Capuche Monogram Denim Bag ($2400, 866.VUITTON) with pink Louboutin pumps, army green Balenciaga jeans, and a velvet Yves Saint Laurent blazer while out and about in Soho last month. Earlier this spring she carried a neon patent Diane de Maria Bonnie Bag ($1512, 646.619.6857) to enliven her all-neutral outfit. Wide-brim chapeaux are another recent go-to for Ms. SJP; she's been snapped in two different vintage Halston hats recently, worn with both casual and fancier fare. At a press junket for SATC: 2 last month, Parker paired a brown iteration with slim cords, Maison Martin Margiela brown ankle boots, and her leopard LV scarf, but she also wore a black version with a Chanel coat, Vivienne Westwood lace-up heels, and a bright pink scarf while out in the West Village earlier this year.

Happily for us all, replicating Sarah Jessica Parker's off-duty style is easier than getting a ticket to the Sex and the City: 2 premiere. If you're wild about her leopard scarf, we simply must direct your attention to Yves Saint Laurent's Leopard Print Scarf ($880) and Silk Leopard Print Scarf ($395). Yes, they're totally ridiculous indulgences, but who knows, maybe you'll win the lottery tomorrow! On a more realistic note, Harmony Lane's Leopard Scarf ($35) makes for a nice substitute too. If you'd rather pick up a hot-pink patterned piece, don't miss Rumor's Flower Print Scarf ($32), Virginia Johnson's Shark Print Scarf ($195), or if you want something solid, Love Quotes' Scarf ($85) in Confetti should fit the bill. For those of you who prefer to add fuchsia to your outfits via a fun handbag, try Rebecca Minkoff's Mini Morning After Bag ($250) in Fluoro Pink.

On a non-accessories note, we also found some simple pieces that emulate SJP's essentials. If you're craving an equally chic white frock, try Halston Heritage's Stretch-Jersey V-Neck Dress ($325)—a particularly fitting choice, as the company's creative director also happens to be today's spotlighted star. Also check out Riller & Fount's Athens Draped Mini Dress ($148) for a sleeveless iteration with a similarly Grecian vibe. For those readers who are more interested in Parker-inspired trousers, we have several suggestions as well. If you were green with envy over her khaki Balenciagas, you just might adore J Brand's Low-Rise Skinny Jeans ($165) in Olive or the brand's Chino Pants ($216) in Army. We also like the streamlined silhouette of the Skinny Leg Military Pants ($148) by Joe's Jeans; they're slim and cropped, perfect for cuffing. If you're in need of a similar silver-gray pair of cords, please note that while there aren't a thousand styles on the market right now, American Apparel's Unisex Corduroy Slim Slacks ($74) in Medium Gray and Opening Ceremony x Levi's Corduroy Pants ($150) are two cool choices. Just add one of the many previously mentioned accessory options and you'll be channeling SJP faster than you can say "Carrie Bradshaw."
