Demystifying Double Pointed Needles

How-To Video: Double Pointed Needles Free Pattern - Criss Cross Free Pattern - Footie

Knitting in the round is all the rage right now, and it is easy to understand the appeal. Knitting in the round is incredibly addictive: you work in a continuous spiral and since there is no natural stopping point, projects seem to zoom along. Knitting in the round does require some specialized tools and needles, either circular needles, those funny looking contraptions with two pointed ends and a thin cable in the middle, or double pointed needles. Double pointed needles, or DPNs, allow you to knit very small circumference tubes required for projects like socks, sleeves, toys and the tops of hats. Video TutorialsThis week I've made a video showing you how to get started on DPNs. Don't worry, it's awkward for even the most seasoned knitter. If you can make it through those first few rounds, you'll be on your way to tackling projects like this week's free sock patterns, Criss Cross and Footie, both knit in Berroco Comfort® Sock.

Free Patterns These winsome socks, Criss Cross, designed by Rebecca Osborn have a crisscrossing lattice of stitches that make for a very fun sock knitting experience. Abbreviated socklets, Footie, are the perfect pair to whip up for warmer months. Stash a pair in your purse for visiting "shoes off" households.
