Our
Insider's Picks stories are always staff favorites, but today's installment was a particular delight to put together. In honor of spring and in preparation for some impending beach days, we turned to a woman who knows exactly what you need to have on hand as the temperature rises—Behati Prinsloo. As a catwalk veteran and spokesmodel for Victoria's Secret PINK, Prinsloo not only travels the world for work, but she also gets incredible access to fashion firsthand, making her an interesting source for sure. Plus, since her career requires her to work on location in gorgeously tropical places, we figured she'd be a pro at picking the best warm-weather necessities! Needless to say, this Namibian native didn't disappoint; she rounded up an excellent assortment of pieces that share her grounded charm, including a darling bikini from her first capsule collection! Read on for all of Prinsloo's favorites and enjoy our first model-centric
Insider's Picks!
Ray-Ban Wayfarer Sunglasses($145) in Tortoise
When it comes to sunglasses, our laid-back insider sticks to a longtime favorite frame: Ray-Ban's Wayfarer. It's an iconic eyewear choice—even in
red, but especially in timeless
tortoiseshell—one that perfectly illustrates Prinsloo's inherently approachable style!
Piz Buin In Sun Lotion SPF 30 ($23)
Sun-savvy readers will recognize Prinsloo's suncare essential, but
everyone should pay attention to her pick. Though the brand isn't distributed Stateside, the Piz Buin team is a venerable one and has been producing sunscreen for over 70 years! If that august history isn't enough, just remember that Prinsloo grew up in Africa and therefore is a (unofficial) sun protection expert.
Vintage Levi's Cutoffs
Keeping with her understated wardrobe choices, Prinsloo usually opts for a beloved pair of vintage Levi's short-shorts during the warmer months. While her exact version is impossible to replicate, thankfully the Levi's
501 Cutoff Shorts ($50) have the same worn-in feel. Pair with a bikini at the beach or an oversized vintage men's button-up—another Prinsloo-approved suggestion!
Sachajuan Ocean Mist Spray ($28)
Prinsloo's long locks are certainly obsession-worthy—oh those perfectly effortless waves!—so we couldn't wait to hear all about her must-have hair product. While we can't swear you'll get the exact same cool kink, Sachajuan's Ocean Mist Spray just might help you achieve an approximation of Prinsloo's beachy cool. The formula is particularly intriguing: it's packed with proteins, minerals from sea algae, and enough salt to give even the finest hair a little body.
Alexander Wang Diego Bucket Bag ($825)
It's no surprise that Prinsloo's mad about a bag from the master of model-off-duty chic, but we
were intrigued by her tote of choice. Rather than the celeb-favorite Rocco Duffel, Prinsloo prefers the slouchy shape, studded bottom, and meshed leather of Wang's Diego Bucket Bag. It's the perfect rough-around-the-edges accessory to round out anyone's wardrobe—no matter if you're a model or a civilian! If the investment is just too much, do check out the similar shape of Deux Lux's
Tassel Bucket Bag ($68) or Kooba's
Daniela Studded Leather Bucket Bag ($345). Want a tougher, studded look for less dinero? Be sure to check out Matt & Nat's
Commix Drawstring Bag ($230) in black.
Holland & Strachan Raven Skull Ring ($1600, +44 (0) 207 727 5301)
When asked to share her favorite bijoux with WhoWhatWear.com readers, Prinsloo immediately cited this exaggerated raven ring. It turns out that in addition to adoring it's gothic glamour, she's got an emotional attachment to the exquisite line too. This piece is part of a collaborative collection created by Prinsloo's boyfriend, model Jamie Strachan, and jewelry designer Philippa Holland, and features a range of necklaces, bracelets, and rings inspired by the delicate skeletons of birds and beetles. One look at the stunning execution and we understand why Prinsloo's a fan! If you like the Burtonesque appeal of this ring, you also might like some Pamela Love's latest offerings, like the
Talon Ring ($265), or Onward Into The Future's Tusk Ring in Silver ($196) too.
Chaser Nirvana Reading T-Shirt ($38)
Prinsloo's most vital wardrobe staple? One of the many vintage rock t-shirts overflowing her closet, of course! Off-duty, the catwalk stunner lives in these comfy concert tees and wouldn't have it any other way. Though she has amassed an interesting collection of one-of-a-kind pieces, she also likes the vintage vibe of this wonderfully worn-in Chaser t-shirt. It's an ideal item to wear with your favorite cut-offs for the beach, or style it with a pair of black leather shorts or a miniskirt for a tough/tender mix. (On a side note: the t-shirt will be available early next week, check back for more details!)
Victoria's Secret Bathing Suit ($49, available at select Victoria's Secret PINK locations)
Prinsloo's capsule collection of beachwear for Victoria's Secret PINK is truly darling—visit
PINK Nation for more details—especially this petite, patterned bikini! In addition to the graphic checks, this suit has a smaller, more Brazilian-style cut per Prinsloo's preferences. Besides this tiny two-piece, she also designed an animal-print bikini (complete with a leopard's face on the bottoms), several tunics, and a darling elephant t-shirt.—Additional reporting by Natalie Yost
